From Central Florida to the Mighty Amazon!
Orlando resident and cancer Survivor to Trek 5,000 Miles across the Amazon Jungle.

Mickey Grosman’s ‘History Making’ Journey, on locations no one dared to cross before, intends to reignite the fight against cancer.

ORLANDO, Florida, April 25, 2012 – The Amazon 5000 - For the Cure foundation, www.amazon5000.com announced today that its founder Mickey Grosman - a recent cancer survivor, an Adventurer, Explorer and Survivalist, will be departing to Ecuador on May 2nd to begin final preparations for his 5,000 mile expedition across the mighty Amazon Jungle. His history making journey will launch May 19, 2012 in Pedernales on the pacific shore of Ecuador.

The AMAZON 5000 Expedition led by Grosman will trek 5,000 treacherous and uncharted miles across the the South American Continent on a journey path that NO ONE has ever dared to cross. This 12 month epic expedition on foot will take Mickey coast-to coast, from the Pacific shores of Ecuador to the Amazon mouth at the Atlantic Ocean in Brazil, over the brutal Western and Eastern Andes in Ecuador and through the Mighty Amazon River.
The twelve month journey will run across the wider part of the the continent trekking the length of the Amazon River and traversing Ecuador, Peru, Colombia and Brazil.

On his route, Mickey will be aided by rare historic maps, previous interviews of indigenous Amazonians, and a collection of oral and written testimonies gathered over the years to help him navigate through the treacherous terrain. Mickey intends to retrace the original tracks of the Legendary El-Dorado voyage in 1541, commanded by the Spaniard Francisco de Orellana, the explorer who discovered the Amazon River and named that region “Amazonia.”

No doubt, Mickey will face extreme challenges such as hazardous gorges, turbulent waterways, dangerous environmental obstacles and deadly wildlife that may impede his journey. More of are the savage “uncontacted “Amazon tribes, hostile pirates and even drug trafficking bandits that might encounter his way. But Mickey is determined to persevere and reach his destiny, as no one before him has done. Not since Francisco de Orellana’s exploration has anyone attempted to cross this path at this juncture.

Faced with a potential life-threatening environment, Mickey will rely heavily on his best survival skills, gained during his years of service in a Special Operations combat unit, and honed while staying in the rural jungle and living among his Amazonian friends. These valuable skills have aided him over the years as he led adventures deep into the Amazon Rainforest of Ecuador sharing his passion for exploration and extreme challenge experience with adventure seekers like him.

It wouldn’t be the first time Mickey has to face a life-threatening situation. Diagnosed on 2010 with melanoma cancer, and now cancer free, Mickey’s objective is to run the AMAZON 5000 Expedition as a tool to promote global awareness to the plight of other cancer patients and to raise funds along his journey to benefit Cancer research.

By setting a personal example of courage and determination, Mickey is ready to face the elements to its extreme and to continue his path along the Amazon despite all obstacles .

Mickey dedicates this extraordinary trek to those who are fighting cancer hoping to inspire and to encourage them to continue their fight despite their unwavering obstacles.

The Amazon 5000 for the Cure, is a non-profit organization with a big mission.
Through his campaign, it is Mickey’s goal to:

  • Reignite the fight against cancer
  • Inspire those currently in the battle
  • Endorse organizations that support families in their journey to conquer cancer.
“It is my goal during this campaign to raise major funding for the cancer community and reignite the fight against cancer on a global scale” stated Grosman.

Cancer treatment has been greatly enhanced by rainforest medicines”, says Grosman. According to the National Cancer Society, 70 percent of the plants with anti-cancer properties are native to tropical rainforests.
Believing that the Amazon Rainforest is humanity’s hope for the Cure Mickey wish to bring awareness to the rising deforestation in the jungle, and to emphasize the importance in conserving the Amazon rainforest and its species, many of whom are yet to be discovered!

The AMAZON 5000 expedition will be covered by national TV and media and will be streaming LIVE from the jungle via satellite communication methods.

Fans from around the world can follow Mickey and AMAZON 5000 expediton virtually by visiting our website: www.amazon5000.com where they will be able to follow the expedition progress in real time with 10 minute increments of auto updates. Mickey will interact with us all back at home LIVE from the heart of the mighty Amazon jungle!

While Mickey will be followed by thousands of fans from around the globe, his biggest fans will be of the smallest size; children - Children who are in the battle.

Mickey dedicates his journey to all those children battling Cancer that are undergoing treatments in the hospitals. Despite his hectic schedule, packed with preparations for a record setting expedition, Mickey has ensured to set time aside for his true purpose - to inspire and bring hope to these children.

Prior to his departure Mickey has been a featured guest speaker at local children cancer organizations and hospitals. Bringing his spirit of adventure and sharing with them the mystical wonders of the Amazon jungle, he has captivated the kids imagination and given them a break from the ugly world cancer has surrounded them with. Mickey shares with the children survival tips and tells how he has overcome adversity. His message to these kids...together we can make The IMPOSSIBLE, POSSIBLE!

The children will be virtually tracking Mickey in the jungle straight from their hospital bed thanks to the Amazon 5000 - for the Cure foundation and with collaboration of their partner, Florida Hospital. Start by introducing yourself and talk about the following:
1.    Where you are from, what you do for a living and what your life is like right now.
2.    Why you want to join our team of adventures. What do you hope to accomplish? What is your motivation?
